SYNKOPEN

Launch of the book series SYNKOPEN

As part of the Library of MaerzMusik, Wolke Verlag presents the launch of its new book series SYNKOPEN – a publishing platform for thinking in motion. In the form of essays and manifestos, the series brings together short, pointed texts at the intersection of music, sound art, theory, and contemporary culture. SYNKOPEN positions itself as a space for aesthetic self-positioning, essayistic interventions, and experimental forms of writing about music in the twenty-first century.

The event will introduce the series to the public for the first time and provide insight into its programmatic orientation. At its core lies the question of how we can think about music and sound today – beyond academic routines and the smoothness of the cultural feuilleton. The texts in the series respond to a present shaped by digital technologies, ecological crises, new forms of collectivity, and radical transformations in cultural production.

During the event, the first four volumes of SYNKOPEN will be introduced, and key questions will be discussed: What forms can musical thinking take today? How can theory, artistic practice, and political awareness intersect? And what role can short, concise publications play in an increasingly accelerated cultural discourse?

SYNKOPEN brings together authors from a wide range of fields – including composition, sound art, music theory, philosophy, and media art – and invites readers to understand music not only as an art form but also as a space for thought. The launch within the Library of MaerzMusik is therefore conceived not merely as a book presentation, but as the starting point for an open discussion about new ways of writing, listening, and thinking about music in the present.
