Concert | Berlin-based Orchestras
The concert will be conducted by Alexander Briger in place of Peter Eötvös, due to illness.
It is quite unusual the way the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra played themselves into the top league of European orchestras. They work with four permanent conductors. Gustavo Dudamel, rising star from Venezuela, was appointed as chief conductor. Neeme Järvi, father of the orchestra’s success and its honorary conductor, brings international experience. Christian Zacharias is the Principal Guest Conductor for traditional repertoire. Finally, Peter Eötvös, composer, and – with Pierre Boulez – perhaps the most sophisticated and creative conductor of Modern Music, is responsible for new works. His violin concerto is dedicated to the victims of the Columbia catastrophe. Conducted by Boulez, its world premiere was given by Akiko Suwanai, youngest winner of the Tchaikovsky Competition.
