Matthias Pees (Director of Berliner Festspiele) & Winrich Hopp (Artistic Director of Musikfest Berlin)

About the Programme

From 28 August to 23 September 2026, the Berlin concert season starts with Musikfest Berlin, organised by the Berliner Festspiele in cooperation with the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation.

Dr Wolfram Weimer, Minister of State for Culture and the Media

Greeting

The opening concert marks both the beginning of the Musikfest Berlin and a special anniversary: this year, we celebrate 75 years of the Berliner Festspiele. This anniversary also draws our attention to 1951, when the Berliner Festwochen took place for the first time.

Andrea Zietzschmann, Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation

Greeting

For 75 years the Berliner Festspiele have been a gauge of musical and social developments – in a city that is itself a symbol of change and debate. Musikfest Berlin, a successor to the Berliner Festwochen with its rich tradition, now represents the sparkling opening of the concert season, bringing prestigious orchestras, ensembles, soloists and conductors from all over the world together with Berlin’s vibrant orchestral landscape.
