Crvsh csnprcsh. Shvttt shvtttt. No matter how much the Berlin music scene tries to lead the way in experimental sound, the best noise interference is still made in Bavaria. In Weilheim, to be precise, an idyllic little town not far from Ammersee, where noise interference can still truly interfere. Here, the brothers Markus and Micha Acher have run their band The Notwist for the last 25 years. Initially, they played grungy rock in the tradition of American hardcore punk. Then, they discovered the wonders of electronics, resulting in the laptop meets indie-rock album “Neon Golden” in 2002 one of the most important German pop records of the decade. Later, they even turned their hand to hip hop, jazz and brass music. The Notwist has launched one ensemble after another with changing members – from Tied & Tickled Trio to 13&God – and for their soundtrack to Hans Christian Schmid’s “Sturm”, they received the German Film Prize. But the latest album has been five years coming. In 2014, the waiting is finally over and The Notwist will be performing new tracks during Foreign Affairs for the first time. And to do this, they have a large entourage, supplemented by a vibraphonist and a comprehensive brass section.
