Gerhild Steinbuch was born in Mödling (Austria) in 1983, studied Creative Writing for the Stage at the DRAMA FORUM Graz and completed a Master’s degree in Dramaturgy at the Ernst Busch University of Theatre Arts in Berlin. She writes texts for theatre and opera, audio dramas, essays and translates from English into German. Since 2020 – together with Olga Grjasnowa – she has been Head of the Institute of Language Arts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Gerhild Steinbuch is a founder member of HYDRA (formerly Nazis & Goldmund), an author-based initiative to counter the far right across Europe. She co-initiated DIE VIELEN in Austria. Recent productions: Nosferatu (Burgtheater, 2024), Baumeister Solness (Münchner Kammerspiele, 2024), Glaube Liebe Hoffnung oder Leistung muss sich leider lohnen (Theater Konstanz, 2025).
