
Mazen Hussein was born in 1972 in Aleppo, Syria. He studied viola, Arab zither and music theory at the Music Academy in Damascus. Between 1994 and 2003 he was a member of the national symphony orchestra of Damascus, which toured internationally. In addition to Arab music and culture, electronic music has influenced his work. From 2003 to 2006 he studied electronic music at the Conservatoire National de Musique de Toulouse with Bertrand Dubedout. Hussein’s composition “Hommage” received an award at the Bourges international electronic music competition in France. He has given numerous concerts in France and the Middle East. He has been based in Berlin since 2006, where he composes, teaches, participates in several theatre projects and leads the “Arrumi Ensemble”.
