director, playwright
Anne Sophie Kapsner (she/they) studied Theatre Studies and Language, Literature and Culture in Munich and Stockholm. This was followed by a degree in Directing at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. From 2020 to 2022, Kapsner worked as an assistant director at the Münchner Kammerspiele and, in their first season, directed their own work ALLES GOLD, nichts glänzt based on Chekhov’s Platonov as well as for the Lange Nacht für Neue Dramatik 2021 In The Name Of by Allex. Fassberg.
Since 2022, Kapsner has been working in Germany and abroad as a director, author and artistic researcher. From 2022 to 2025, Kapsner was part of the international research residency project “Future Laboratory” and conducted artistic research in Poland, Spain and Romania on queerness, grief and death. In 2025 they directed the novel adaptation of the queer-feminist western Die Gesetzlosen by Anna North at Theaterhaus Jena, which was invited to the Woche junger Schauspieler*innen 2026 in Bensheim.
Kapsner’s interdisciplinary works, which lie at the intersection of documentary, theatre and pop aesthetics, are characterised by rhythm and precision. The aesthetic stage language is generated from the text template. Thematically, Kapsner deals with questions of the self in the world, emancipatory themes and taboos.
