
Chris Mann was born in Australia in 1949, and studied Chinese and linguistics in Melbourne. He has been based in New York since the mid-1990s. His performances focus on Australian jargon with its rhythms, gestures, qualities of colour, pitch, intonation and emphasis, allowing for a play of wit and humour. Chris Mann has worked with John Cage, among others, and has created several compositions. For a long time, Chris Mann performed with the Australian formation Machine for Making Sense. In the meantime, he concentrates on solo performances. Chris Mann teaches at the New School in New York.
