Diego Vásquez was born and raised in Washington DC and currently lives in Hartford, Connecticut, where he is completing his Doctor of Musical Arts in clarinet and music history at The Hartt School. His dissertation work is focusing on the relationship between Richard Wagner and Friedrich Nietzsche and the clarinet writing in Parsifal. He is a student of Ayako Oshima and Ira Braus. Diego is principal clarinet of the Berkshire Opera Festival and has performed with the Hartford Symphony, Hartford Opera Theater, Norwalk Symphony, New Britten Symphony, American Lyric Theatre, Ensemble Mise-En and Canterbury Choral Society. He completed his Master of Music at Mannes College of Music, where he studied with Charles Neidich and graduated with the George and Elizabeth Gregory Award for Excellence in Performance. He commissioned an original costume design for Stockhausen’s Der Kleine Harlekin using the Peter M. Gross Fund grant and performed privately for the New School Board of Trustees. Diego received his Bachelor of Music from Ithaca College, where he double majored in music and dance. He attended the Lucerne Festival Academy in 2016 and the Stockhausen Courses and Concerts in Kürten, Germany in 2015 and 2017.
