Hubert Winkels

Hubert Winkels was born in the region between Dusseldorf and Cologne in 1955 and lives in Cologne and Berlin. From 1982 to 1985, he worked as a magazine editor, then as a freelance writer. Since 1988, he has been the literary critic for DIE ZEIT, a weekly newspaper from Hamburg. Between 1996 and 2002, he presented a monthly literature programme on the public television station SWF/SWR: initially “Dichterclub”, followed by “Die Bestenliste. Das Literaturmagazin”. Since 1997, he has been editor for literature at Deutschlandfunk (German public radio station). In 2000, he was one of the founders of the Wilhelm Raabe Literature Award. He is the chairman of the jury of the Ingeborg-Bachmann-Competition. In 2007, he received the Alfred-Kerr-Award for literary criticism.
