Kyohei Sakaguchi

Kyohei Sakaguchi was born in Kumamoto, Japan, in 1978. He is an architect, writer, painter and founder of the ‘New Government’. Sceptical about contemporary architecture in his architecture-school days, he scoured the city of Tokyo, interviewed people living on the streets, and even lived in a temporary dwelling on the banks of the Tamagawa River. Since 2004, he has published six fiction and non-fiction books based on his research in Japan. His works, Tokyo Zero Yen House, Zero Yen Life and The Edison of the Sumidagawa River were adapted for the film My House (directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi), which is currently being shown in Japanese cinemas. In 2011, shortly after the nuclear power plant accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake, he moved from Tokyo to Kumamoto, where he established the ‘Zero Center’ and the ‘New Government’.
