
Tolga Yayalar is from Istanbul and played e-guitar in jazz and rock bands before devoting his time to composition. He studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston (Massachusetts) as well as at İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, completing doctoral studies at Harvard University in Cambridge (Massachusetts). Tolga Yayalar currently teaches at Bilkent Üniversitesi in Ankara. His first works united influences of Anton Weber’s music with jazz. Structure and timbre as well as different microtonal sound systems are at the centre of his compository interests. In his music, he mediates between Oriental and Occidental traditions. His works have been performed by renowned ensembles and orchestras in the USA, Latin America and Europe.
