Joonas Ahonen

The artistic work of the Finnish pianist Joonas Ahonen ranges from the interpretation of Ludwig van Beethoven’s work on historical instruments to world premieres of contemporary music. Ahonen became a member of the Klangforum Wien in 2011, a few years after completing his education at the Sibelius Academy, where he studied with Tuuha Hakkila and Liisa Pohjola.

Ahonen's recordings of György Ligeti's piano concerto with the BIT20 ensemble and Charles Ives’ Sonata No. 2 “Concord” on BIS Records were enthusiastically received by the critics. Most recently he was among others at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, at the Musiq'3 Festival in Brussels, at Pekka Kuusistos Our Festival in Tuusula, as well as in performances with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He was on tour with a selection of Ligeti’s “Études” for piano solo as part of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's production “Achterland”.
