Paula Lynn Breuer is an emerging director. She has studied Theatre and Film Directing as well as Applied Theatre Studies. These have supplemented her long-term training in dance and acting.
Her production TO TELL A STORY IS AN ACT OF LOVE created at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) was invited to the Körber Studio Junge Regie festival. Her work Der Weg zurück, adapted from Dennis Kelly and completed while she was still a student, was selected for the 2024 Swiss Theatertreffen.
In March 2025 Breuer was awarded her diploma with distinction by ZHdK for Die Verhinderung der Distanz. Immediately afterwards she directed Die Stille, the opening premiere at Zurich’s Theater Neumarkt in September 2025, an evening that the NZZ am Sonntag described as “as difficult as it is haunting” and a “brave start to the new season.”
Her works have been invited to international festivals. Breuer’s theatre works operate between spoken theatre, choreography and ritual. Her working method combines detailed guidance to the actors and taut dramatic arcs with a poetic logic in which space, sound, text and the body each function as autonomous systems of expression. Her productions have been based on novels and films, classic and contemporary material as well as plays she has developed herself. Physical work and switching between intimate directness and symbolic intensity are their defining features. In the age of serial perception, for Breuer form is just as political as content.
