Onur Türkmen

Onur Türkmen was born in 1972 in the West Anatolian town of Eskisehir. He studied environmental engineering at İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi and then composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston (Massachusetts). Following this, he completed doctoral studies on contemporary techniques applied to Turkish musical instruments at the Center for Music Research at İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi. His music is interpreted by prominent ensembles, including Ensemble Adapter, the Talking Drums Trio, the Razumovsky Ensemble and the Bilkent Ensemble. In his works, Onur Türkmen implements traditional Turkish instruments as well as classical Western instruments, treating them in new ways and unlocking unexpected sounds.
