Füsun Köksal

Composer Füsun Köksal was born in 1973 in the western Turkish town of Bursa. She studied music theory and composition at Bilkent Üniversitesi in Ankara and following that at the composition at the Musikhochschule Köln with Krzysztof Meyer and music theory with Johannes Schild. Füsun Köksal has taught at Bilkent Üniversitesi and commenced a doctorate in composition at the University of Chicago in 2004. The composer writes works for solo instruments, chamber ensembles and orchestras. Her musical language is marked by her interest in sound gestures and the timbral possibilities in traditional orchestral instruments, which she implements in her works in various ways. Her works have been performed at several festivals in North America and Europe.
