Michael Gordon

Michael Gordon was born in Florida in 1956. He gained experience in New York underground rock bands and studied composition with Martin Bresnik at Yale University. Both are reflected in Michael Gordon’s body of work, which contains post-minimalist currents, among others. In addition to ensemble and orchestral works, he has produced compositions for music theatre – among them “What to Wear”, which premiered in Los Angeles, and “Aquanetta” for the Aachen opera. Video art and experimental presentation forms often constitute important elements of his works. Together with Julia Wolfe and David Lang, Michael Gordon is co-founder of the Bang on a Can festival as well as New York’s legendary music collective of the same name.
