Musician Thomas Ankersmit was born in 1979 in Leiden, Netherlands and divides his time between Amsterdam and Berlin. In addition to his activities as an interpreter, he has also made a name for himself with a series of installations. His main instruments are analogue synthesizers, computers and the alto saxophone. He frequently works together with New York-based minimalist Phill Niblock and electroacoustic artists Valerio Tricoli and Kevin Drumm. His music projects and live performances take on a lively character and are marked by surprising turns and structural and conceptual stringency. Critics are particularly impressed by the balance between chaos and control in Ankersmit’s music. A series of CD recordings document Ankersmit’s always astonishing works.
