
Jean-Michaël Lavoie, who was born in 1982 in Québec, studied the piano and completed his conducting studies in Montréal. As a pianist, he has won several prizes and has established himself as a conductor in recent years. He made his debut at the large Canadian orchestras as well as the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, performing works by George Crumb among others. Lavoie has performed in Bogotá, in Wroclaw, at the Opéra de Rennes and gave his debut at the Scala in Milan in 2011. He has conducted the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. He has also worked with renowned new music formations such as the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Klangforum Wien, the Ensemble Modern and the Israel Contemporary Players.
