IEMA-Ensemble 2024/25

The International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) was founded in 2003 as Ensemble Modern’s training centre, in order to convey the numerous artistic movements of our times as well as an open, creative manner of dealing with artistic processes. It offers education programmes for various target groups, ranging from education projects to international master courses for instrumentalists to formats for young artists at the beginning of their professional careers. Beyond that, IEMA considers itself a platform for various formats of discourse. One main focus of the education formats is the one-year Master’s degree course which IEMA has been offering in cooperation with the Frankfurt Music Academy since 2006. For one year, young artists (instrumentalists, conductors, composers and sound directors) work with Ensemble Modern members and renowned guest docents on the diverse repertoire of modernism. The results of this work are presented by the IEMA-Ensemble formed by every class, which presents up to 20 performances per year in Germany and abroad, including at major festivals. This degree course, unique throughout the world, has produced more than 300 graduates so far.

The Ensemble also takes part in the Lucerne Festival Academy and presents eight world premieres by young composers from the Composer Seminar. Further international appearances will take the ensemble to the impuls Festival in Graz and the Gaudeamus Festival in Utrecht as part of the Ulysses Platform.
