Jonathan Stockhammer

Conductor Jonathan Stockhammer was born in Los Angeles in 1969. He first studied sinology and political science before moving on to composition and conducting. Still a student, he had the opportunity of filling in for a series of concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and was subsequently invited to become assistant to chief conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen. Upon completing his studies, he moved to Germany and has since worked closely with European ensembles such as the Ensemble Modern, Ensemble musikFabrik and Ensemble Resonanz. Stockhammer has not only made a name for himself internationally as a specialist for new music but also as a conductor with a classical repertoire as well as for music theatre. Also creating a stir was his collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys for the new film music for Sergei Eisenstein’s “Battleship Potemkin”.
