Arnon Grünberg

Arnon Grünberg was born as Arnon Yasha Yves Grünberg on 22 February, 1971 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. His parents fled Nazi Germany in the mid-1930s. Grünberg visited the Amsterdam Montessori School and the Vossius Gymnasium in Amsterdam, which he had to leave early at the age of 17. Two years later he founded his own publishing house, Kasimir, which specialized in “non-Aryan German literature”. Grünberg has lived and worked in New York City since 1995.

Arnon Grünberg published his first novel, “Blue Mondays”, in 1994 at the age of 23. It became an international bestseller. In addition to literary publications, Grünberg is known for his work as a columnist, e.g. for “Volkskrant”, a daily newspaper in the Netherlands, essayist, journalist and blogger. He is considered to be a multifaceted author who is also open to unusual projects. In 2014, for example, he allowed neurologists to monitor his brain activity while writing a new novel so that they could investigate whether creativity can be measured.

Arnon Grünberg’s work is available in 27 languages including English, Hebrew and Japanese.
