Ana Maria Rodriguez

Space – poetry – spontaneity
In her work, Ana Maria Rodriguez combines the spontaneity of improvisation with precisely written scores. As laptop-player she interacts with the musicians and thus takes an active part in the interpretation of her own work. At the same time, she incorporates the concrete acoustic and architectural conditions that she finds in her concert venues into her compositions, concert installations or performance works. Her recent works have been revolving around what might be described as the relationship between poetry and technology. This relationship is not limited to a use of text, poetry and literary foundations in the compositions, but in a more abstract sense also includes the musical application of technological devices for a wealth of perspectives originating in poetry. Ana Maria Rodriguez is essentially interested in phrasing heterogeneous layers of time, multifaceted spaces and plotlines that seem to contradict all logic as sparsely and sensually as they would be in poetry.

She studied piano and composition in Buenos Aires and electronic music and algorithmic composition in Barcelona. In1993 she took part in a research project at the department for “Artificial intelligence” at Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.
In 1996 she took up residence in Berlin and presented in the following years her first concert installations: precisely formulated scores which were combined with installative forms of presentation.
Since 2004 she is active as a laptop player.
2005 follows the foundation of the ensemble Les Femmes Savantes.
Ana Maria Rodriguez cooperates with artists from various genres, among them video artists Melita Dahl, Andreas Köpnick, Joanna Rajkowska, Steffi Weismann and poet Ron Winkler. Since 2015, she has worked on the project “Das Stereoskop der Einzelgänger” with Belgian director Ingrid von Wentoch Rekowski and the stage designer Fred Pommerehn, in Reims, Marseille, Berlin and Hannover.
