Zoya Tsererina

Russian soprano Zoya Tsererina was born in Moscow to a family of musicians. She studied first as a pianist before obtaining a diploma in opera from the Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory. She continued her studies with Mirella Freni, Elena Obraztsova, Renata Scotto, Vladimir Atlantov and Ileana Cotrubas. She is a prizewinner of several international competitions.

Zoya Tsererina started her career as a mezzo-soprano at the St Petersburg Opera performing such roles as Fidalma in “Il Matrimonio Segreto”, Polina in “Queen of Spades”, Olga in “Eugen Onegin”, Principessa de Bouillon in “Adriana Lecouvreur” and Lucretia in “The Rape of Lucretia”. In concert with the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra she sang Konchakovna in “Prince Igor” and Santuzza in “Cavalleria Rusticana”. In 2007 she became a soloist of the Tatar State Opera performing both soprano and mezzo-soprano roles, including Turandot, Tosca, Abigaille and Fenena in “Nabucco”, Liza in “Queen of Spades”, Amneris, Carmen, Marina Mnishek and others. She has participated in the company’s tours to Netherlands as Leonora in “Il Trovatore”, as Abigaille in “Nabucco” and went on tour as Tosca in autumn 2018.

Zoya Tsererina has appeared in the title role of Turandot and as Eboli at the Mariinsky Theatre and as Tosca at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. She sang Abigaille at the International Shalyapin Festival in Kazan and Lyubasha in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Tsar’s Bride” in Valladolid. In Bilbao she covered Maddalena in “Andrea Chénier”. Further engagements include Turandot in Ekaterinburg and with Oper Bonn in the spring 2018.

In June 2019 she gave her debut as fremde Fürstin at the Glyndebourne Festival in Dvořák’s “Rusalka” under the baton of von Robin Ticciati.
