theatre artist, community facilitator
Mohamed Gaber “Bora” is an Egyptian performance artist and theatre maker from Alexandria. Originally trained in accounting, his path shifted toward the arts through a long-standing passion for theatre and live performance. Over time, he developed his practice through collaborations and training with local and international artists, participating in artistic exchanges and creative projects across different cultural contexts in Asia and Europe. His work has brought him into contact with diverse communities and audiences from various social and age backgrounds.
In his artistic practice, Bora is particularly interested in the relationship between human beings and space, and in how identity is shaped through interaction with the surrounding environment. This interest informs his approach to performance and the way he explores the theatrical space as a place of encounter, transformation and shared experience.
He has taken part in several theatre projects presented at major festivals, including the Egyptian National Theatre Festival and the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre. Among the works he has been involved in are Fando and Lis by Fernando Arrabal, The Swinger (inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet), and 12 Angry Men by Reginald Rose. Driven by a continuous curiosity for experimentation, Bora keeps developing his artistic language through collaboration, exploration and engagement with new artistic environments.
