Michael Spyra was born in Aschersleben in 1983 and grew up there as well as with his grandparents in Warmsdorf, where he once saw a UFO with his cousin. He was a pupil at Stephaneum and a swimmer at LOK Aschersleben. He spent a large part of his adolescence in the swimming pool. The other half was spent in party cellars. At 16, he went to Florida for a year. Back in Aschersleben, he wrote reviews and record critiques for the young page of the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, became an editor at Bürgerradio hbw, where he co-produced two programs a week, and attended readings by Uwe Kolbe, Elke Erb, Adolf Endler and Kerstin Hensel, among others. He made new friends who recommended good books to him and with whom he met every other week to discuss his own texts. In 2003, he finally graduated from high school and moved to Halle (Saale), did his civilian service at the Helen Keller School, celebrated his 21st birthday and you can find out everything else elsewhere.
