Leonhard Winkler

The German sculptor Leonhard Winkler was born in Ebersberg in 1997. He initially completed an apprenticeship in Glonn as a model maker specialising in bodywork and production, and worked in the field of measurement technology. He went on to train as a wood sculptor at the Vocational School for Woodcarving in Munich, where he started his training as a master craftsman in 2025. His works have been presented at annual exhibitions and have won various awards. Alongside his activity as a carpenter, in his own projects Leonhard Winkler explores many materials and techniques, such as stonemasonry and metal engraving. During his training he had an Erasmus internship at the Salzburg Marionette Theatre, where his work as a sculptor included creating the heads of the figures for the production Romeo und Julia (Romeo and Juliet, 2024). In close collaboration with Georg Baselitz, he also recreated all the puppet heads and bodies for L’Histoire du soldat, which premiered at the 2025 Salzburg Festival.
