
Hasan Uçarsu was born in 1965 in Istanbul, and studied composition at Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi in his hometown with Cengiz Tanç. Following this, he completed doctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania with George Crumb and Richard Wernick. Today, he teaches composition at Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi. In 2007, he was guest composer and professor at the University of Memphis. His works are performed in Europe and the USA, and he has released several CDs with international labels. Hasan Uçarsu’s music also featured in Yo Yo Ma’s “Silk Road Project”. Uçarsu writes choral works as well as instrumental music for chamber music ensembles and orchestras. His music is often inspired by Turkish folklore and classical music in Turkey, which he illuminates in multifaceted ways from a contemporary viewpoint.
