Asmati Chibalashvili

Asmati Chibalashvili is a composer and holds a doctorate in art history. She is currently deputy director for scientific affairs at the Modern Art Research Institute in the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine and associate professor at the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music in Kyiv. She is a member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine. Born in Telavi, Georgia, in 1986, she has been resident in the Ukraine since 1994. Chibalashvili studied at the A. V. Nezhdanova Odesa National Academy of Music and completed a postgraduate study course at the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music in Kyiv. She was honoured by the Georgian ambassador in the Ukraine for the promotion of Georgian art in 2002. In 2016, she won first prize at the composition competition Gradus ad Parnassum in Kyiv. In 2021, she was the recipient of the silver medal from the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine. In 2023/2024, she was a VUIAS scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study an der Central European University in Budapest and is currently a non-residential visiting scholar at the Indiana University Bloomington since December 2024 until December 2025. Her works have been performed at international festivals including Two Day and two Nights of New Music (Odessa), Contrasts (Lviv), World New Music Days ISCM (Vancouver) and the Kyiv Music Fest.
