Dessa Ganda (*1985) is a storyteller, dancer and actor from Togo. He grew up in a popular neighbourhood of Lomé/Togo. He first dreamed of a career in the military and later as an artist, both of which were denied to him in a country run down by the dictatorship.
Together with Julia Kratz he has been studying in Berlin since 2018, Ganda for a BA in Dance, Context and Choreography at HZT and Julia for a MA in Religion and Culture at Humboldt University of Berlin. They meet at Haus der Kulturen der Welt at a concert by the Tambours de Brazza. They talk - of course - about Africa. And decide to create a play about their shared and very different childhoods in Togo: The play became Ganda's final project and the subject Kratz's master's thesis.
