Klangforum Wien I

The Klangforum’s programme in its two Musikfest Berlin concerts follows one of the main threads of this year’s festival programme: 16 works by Rebecca Saunders. In “Scar”, the composer works mainly with opposites, which in her case mean extreme contrasts. On stage, as in the compositional idea, two grand pianos occupy the centre. What happens to them is extended to and answered by an accordion, an electric guitar, percussion instruments of different kinds and a group of winds and strings. These provide the protagonists with resonances, echoes and counter-sounds, which become increasingly independent. It is a music of tentative sensitivity, on the one hand, and of eruptive sound power, on the other. In addition to the pieces “Flesh” (2018), for accordion and voice, and “Sole” (2019), for accordion, percussion and piano, a new piano piece by Rebecca Saunders will be premiered. In the second part of the concert, Klangforum Wien will unite with the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart to perform the world premiere of a new work by the Greek-French composer Georges Aperghis.
