Company Wayne McGregor: “Autobiography”

What does it mean to write the story of your own life? For 25 years Wayne McGregor has created choreographies that ask questions about life through the experience of the body. Now the well-known British choreographer turns to the body as archive in order to create a series of choreographic portraits. For his first study, “Autobiography,” McGregor had his own DNA decoded, then created a dynamic dance mosaic accompanied by the sounds of the electro-musician Jlin: an abstract mediation for ten dancers on aspects of the self, life and writing algorithmically assembled in a unique order for every performance.

The internationally renowned British choreographer and director Wayne McGregor (*1970) has been the recipient of numerous prizes. He is famous for his pioneering innovations, which have redefined modern dance. Driven by an insatiable interest in movement and its creative potential, his experiments have led him to collaborative dialogues with a wide variety of artistic forms, scientific disciplines and technical inventions. In 1992 McGregor founded his own company, Random Dance; he has been resident choreographer at the Royal Ballet in London since 2006. McGregor has also been commissioned to make works for the world’s leading ballet companies, and he is a sought-after choreographer for the theatre, opera, cinema, music videos and fashion shows.
