Workshop by Bureau Baubotanik
Since the demolition of the former Königlichen Museum für Völkerkunde around a hundred plane trees have been growing on the current parking lot of the Gropius Bau for almost half a century. As silent witnesses of past times, they now provide shade for cars. How can we allow the branches of those hierarchical arrangements of the trees to grow together? The workshop will take a critical look at the current use of space: the participants will evaluate the potential of the site and develop a baubotanically constructed plant community for the existing plane trees that will make a positive contribution to the plant infrastructure on site. Based on the net of existing trees, the workshop participants will develop an artistic strategy of care for a jointly growing ecosystem that nourishes and cares for each other.
Bureau Baubotanik is based in Stuttgart. Their work stands for the integration of life processes of our plant environment into architecture.
