Life and Times – Episodes 4.5&5 © Nature Theater of Oklahoma
The everyday is turned into art. On the basis of a series of telephone conversations in which ensemble member Kristin Worrall forays into the memories of her life, experiences and emotions from birth to early adulthood, the Nature Theater of Oklahoma’s “Life and Times” builds a monument to the profane in which every pause for thought, every “um”, every break in the narrative gets as much attention as the first kiss or the huge fight with the best friend. “Life and Times – Episodes 4.5&5” tells the story of the end of high school and the search for love – starting with the boy in Physics class to the comfort of the family cat. In the short episode 4.5, Worrall’s memories are dissected in an animated film. The soundtrack to this stop-motion film by Kelly Copper and Pavol Liska features original recordings by an orchestra. With a medieval illuminated manuscript, episode 5 expands into new and exciting graphic territory. The saga takes unexpected twists and turns with first sexual experiences which Copper and Liska have made into a 140-page hand-drawn and calligraphed book that invites the audience to a joint reading experience, accompanied by a performance on the organ by company musician Daniel Gower.
