Nature Theater of Oklahoma, New York

It took 16 hours on the phone for Kristin Worrall to tell Nature Theater of Oklahoma founder and director Pavol Liska the memories of her childhood and adolescence in an unspectacular American suburb. The verbatim transcription is the basis for a monumental, ten-episode epic on the magic of the everyday and the construction of memory. As a tape with recordings of crucial telephone conversations was damaged, Kristin Worrall’s memories of her time as a student only exist in a fragmentary form: a vacuum that Kelly Copper and Pavol Liska fill as radio DJs and presenters. The process that they invite Berlin to take part in at the beginning of Foreign Affairs will be presented as a work-in-progress at the end on stage. The interviews made at the grand barbecue on 28th June and the audio material generated talking to the public, friends, company members and locals during open rehearsals in the HAU will be mixed by Copper and Liska into “Life and Times – Episode 6”, a stunning radio show involving the audience.
