Angélica Liddell’s work deals with pain, guilt and the cross we bear for love. This third part of her “Resurrection Cycle” has led the artist to the “High Song of Love”. Liddell turns the Apostle Paul’s Letter to the Corinthians into a hymn to worldly, erotic passion. She reverses the mystical process, turns the theatre into a church and the stage into an altar. She strives to recover the power of the sacred in the world’s abyss. Liddell doesn’t believe in God – and yet she wants to live and work as if he did exist, “to experience the brutality of his absence. God is dead, but the necessity of believing in him is not.”
