Sixth June was formed in 2008 by Serbian visual artist Laszlo Antal and Serbian actress Lidija Andonov. After a short period working and living in Belgrade, the band relocated to Berlin, where their first album was released in 2010. Their first LP, “Everytime”, rapidly gained attention in the music scene and enabled the band to play all over Europe (WGT festival, Fasma festival, Exit, Berghain ...)
In 2011 the band released their EP “Back for a day” for the Italian label Mannequin Records. Their EP “Pleasure” was also released on Mannequin Records in December 2013. Sixth June’s new album “Virgo Rising” came out on 17 February on the Berlin based label aufnahme+wiedergabe.
After their release party in Berlin’s Berghain Club, the band began touring all over Europe, promoting the new release. The Berliner Zeitung characterizes their music as “sweet, cool, dark electropop”, while Vice refer to Sixth June music as “music for dreaming and the new beginnings”.
For the last two years Laszlo was working with the Vinge/Müller theatre company, exploring possibilities of film making in a theatre context. Lidija has experience in playing both in classical and alternative theatre. In the last couple of years she has been focusing more on applied theatre. As a drama-therapist she is using the theatre with both actors and non-actors, as a therapy, a tool of self-expression and artistic act. The common mediums where Laszlo and Lidija met are music and experimental film.
This will be the first time that they will explore the possibilities of setting their music within the realm of theatre and performance.
This switch is announcing something new that this duo will be moving towards. Adding the theatre space and playing their songs in a more performative way is something that came very organically for these two people in the band, who are closely connected to film, theatre and video art.
