Elena is in her late forties and married to a rich businessman. Her flat lacks for nothing, her marriage is going smoothly, her husband goes to the gym and watches TV, sometimes they go to bed together. Elena uses her pocket-money to support the family of her unemployed son from a previous relationship.Things become problematic when Elena asks her husband for a large sum of money so she can help her eldest grandson to go to college and thereby avoid the army draft. Her husband refuses – out of principle. Then he has a heart attack, survives and changes his will in favour of his daughter from a previous marriage. And Elena hatches a desperate plan …

In their laconic film, the director Andrey Zvyagintsev and his cameraman Krichman (The Return, The Banishment) present a moving and critical analysis of modern-day society.

6 and 7 March 2026How does the bourgeois longing for revolt take shape, when the faith in progress and reason is unsettled? Berlin-based artist and director Leila Hekmat explores this question in her newly commissioned performance Roses Rising – The Movement, premiering in the Gropius Bau’s atrium. Moving between concert and ballet, the piece transforms the space into a landscape hovering between bunker, rehearsal room and dreamscape and invites the audience to witness a dinner party unravel into a happening.

As an international co-production, artists Nina Laisné and François Chaignaud and singer Nadia Larcher have developed a performance that is carried by music, singing and dance at once. In “Último helecho”, European Baroque meets South American folklore and mythology.
