Literature, and particularly poetry, has had a special status in Russia since the days of the Tsars. It has also always functioned as a kind of valve. In the new Russia of “managed democracy”, nothing has changed.
Dmitry Bykov – author, poet, literary scholar, publicist and talk-show star, a true Renaissance man bursting with energy and talent, and with a penchant for expressing his political views in iambic pentameter – rewrites famous 19th and 20th-century verse to comment on current political events. Like in Citizen Poet (Graždanin Poet), this second work by the troika is brought to the stage by the famous theatre and TV actor Mikhail Efremov and the producer Andrey Vasilyev. An evening for Russia connoisseurs who love poetry, who have retained a sense of humour, and are ready to enjoy some witty wisdom about the current situation in Russia.
