The next Theatertreffen der Jugend will take place from 30 May&nbsp;to 6 June&nbsp;2025. Applications are now open again.&nbsp;The application deadline has been extended until 10&nbsp;February 2025.

Theatertreffen der Jugend 2025

A total of 103 ensembles from all 16 federal states applied with their productions for the 47th Theatertreffen der Jugend 2026. The applicants developed their productions in a wide range of school settings; there were collaborations between schools and theatres, and submissions from youth clubs at municipal and state theatres, children’s and youth theatres, independent groups based in youth cultural centres and associations, as well as community theatre initiatives.

Congratulations to the award winners! The seven ensembles from five federal states selected by the jury will present their work from 30&nbsp;May to 6&nbsp;June 2026 at the 47th&nbsp;Theatertreffen der Jugend at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.&nbsp;

The Theatertreffen der Jugend sees itself as a platform and place of impulses and exchange, a place of learning where young theater makers can negotiate their working methods and their different themes and attitudes and are encouraged in their individual, artistic forms of expression. The focus is on the invited productions and the encounter and exchange between the young players and their directors in a wide variety of formats.

Productions, Concert, Reading, Party

The prize-winning works of the 47th edition of the Theatertreffen der Jugend are both powerful and sensitive in equal measure. All the young theatre-makers share a strong political concern and a sense of responsibility for the future, which they express through their theatrical work. The often large ensembles represent diverse perspectives and cultural backgrounds; more often than not, multiple languages can be heard on stage. The productions take us into the basement of a residential building, to Delphi before the gates of the gods, into Wonderland, into a universe of heroes, guide us through the five stages of grief, into a back house in Amsterdam and right up to the face of death.The pieces explore growing up in the context of displacement, migration and polycrises. What kind of heroes are needed today to save the world? The young artists reflect on the development of identity under the influence of social media and on the search for one’s place in society as young people with and without disabilities. They address fear, grief as both a private and collective social phenomenon, and feelings of power and powerlessness. An all-male-presenting ensemble examines the “male legacy” and sets out in search of future role models. Another ensemble engages with the life and work of Anne Frank. In this way, remembrance becomes an essential engagement with the present.Audiences can experience performances, inclusive and intergenerational productions, highly physical stage languages with dance and choreography, video art, music theatre with live music and original compositions, documentary theatre, mythological material and puppetry. Here, young artists take to the stage who are convinced of the profound necessity of articulating their concerns.My sincere thanks go to the jury for discovering and selecting these remarkable theatre works. I am deeply grateful to all colleagues at the Berliner Festspiele, who give their utmost to ensure that these young theatre works shine. The team of the Treffen junge Szene deserves my highest respect and gratitude for their dedicated and tireless work on this festival.Without the committed, steadfast and exemplary support of the Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, this special gathering of young theatre-makers would not be possible. The world is teaching us fear – through crises, conflicts and uncertainties. And yet a young generation is growing up that fills us with hope for the future through its energy and creativity.So many self-assured, reflective and politically engaged productions, with a keen sense of diversity, community and social commitment, have reached us this year. For the jury, it was no easy task to select the seven award-winning productions from more than 100 submissions.

The Berliner Festspiele organise a range of festivals and art exhibitions, concerts, dance and theatre performances, readings, lectures, debates and much more throughout the year. These events are presented at a range of locations across Berlin but are concentrated primarily at their own two venues: the Gropius Bau and the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.

The four meetings

Young theatre makers, dancers, musicians and authors are given a platform for their creative work at the four national contests of the Treffen junge Szene and are specifically supported in their artistic development.

As part of the stage programme presented the selected prize-winning productions of the Theatertreffen der Jugend 2023. The programme was supplemented by a supporting programme of concerts and readings.

After an unofficial kick-off of the festival on 21&nbsp;April, this year&#39;s Theatertreffen der Jugend started its public programme on Saturday, 22&nbsp;April with the play &ldquo;So lang ich lebe, lebt Gerechtigkeit.&rdquo;

Outstanding international that liberal societies and their cultural institutions face in a new, multipolar world order. artists such as Marina Abramović, Gabriele St&ouml;tzer and Akira Takayama will set the agenda both thematically and aesthetically. In June 2026, Sasha Waltz &amp; Guests will be performing the productions Beethoven&nbsp;7 and In&nbsp;C at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. Sasha Waltz &amp; Guests will also be staging a special evening to celebrate the 75th&nbsp;anniversary of the Goethe-Institut.

The third edition of Reflexes &amp; Reflections, again curated by the political scientist Saba-Nur Cheema and the historian Saba-Nur Cheema, marks the 75th&nbsp;anniversary of the Berliner Festspiele. As a cultural institution that is linked to Berlin’s eventful history, in their anniversary year the Berliner Festspiele will examine the consequences of the current geopolitical upheaval for open societies.
