Thiess Girardet

Thiess Girardet was born in Berlin in February 2005. He didn't cry then. He likes strawberries, looking closely (politically, personally, out of curiosity), dislikes woodchip wallpaper, writes, takes photographs, and makes films.

In 2023, he exhibited street photography on the theme of being on the move under the title City + People. He writes prose, experimental pieces, rarely a poem, and theater texts—from open-rhythmic dialogues to a text about “cruelty” for the play ICH STEHE STILL und rühre mich (Theatre of Remembrance).

In 2024, together with Julina Jung, he made the 30-minute short film KASSETTEN (CASSETTES) about two young women who move between silence and change along the border between friendship and something more. The film premiered in September 2024; Thiess wrote the screenplay and directed, among other things. Since then, he has made three more short films about looking, looking away, and wanting to be seen.

Since October 2024, he has been working on the novel WIRR (WT) about missing someone, loneliness, and being alone and together. The text has been proofread, pre-edited, and is currently looking for a publisher. Excerpts from it won Thiess the 2025 Treffen junger Autor*innen award.
