Meera Nanda has been combating anti-Enlightenment trends in the humanities and social sciences in India, her native country, and in the United States, where she lives. She taught the history of ancient and medieval Indian science in relation to the history of the Scientific Revolution at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research. Her 2016 book, Science in Saffron: Skeptical Essays on the Indian History of Science, challenged the mythic history of science propagated by Hindu nationalists. Her most recent book published in 2025, Postcolonial Theory and the Making of the Hindu Right: The Wages of Unreason, is a critique of the ensemble of ideas and sensibilities that make up postcolonial and decolonial theory.
