Annette Schönmüller

In recent years, the mezzo-soprano Annette Schönmüller has established herself as one of the most versatile and sought after interpreters in the field of contemporary music. This is evidenced by numerous international premieres as well as by personal collaborations with well-known composers of our time, some of whom have written works especially for her voice: Her presentation of the title role, composed for her in the world premiere of Peter Eötvös’s opera “Paradise reloaded (Lilith)”, received a lot of attention at the Festival Wien Modern 2013. At the Opernhaus Zürich, the artist most recently convinced side by side with Christian Gerhaher in March 2018 in the world premiere of Heinz Holliger’s “Lunea” staged by Andreas Homoki. Annette Schönmüller received her formation at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she also dealt intensively with early music. Therefore, roles of Monteverdi’s operas can be found in her repertoire as well as roles like the Countess Geschwitz in “Lulu” and Marie in “Wozzeck” of Alban Berg or Arnold Schönberg’s monodrama “Erwartung”.
