Sonia Franken

Sonia Franken is a choreographer, producer and dance educator. Artistically, she works at the intersection of choreography and visual theatre, exploring the contradictory relationship between humans and nature and staging the absurdities of everyday life. She choreographs under the label El Cuco Projekt (Cologne Dance Award 2022) and as a member of the performance collective Polar Publik. 
She is also part of the project management team for the multi-professional training programme “Tandem Tanz und Schule NRW” run by the Federal Association for Dance in Education and Society.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Dance Education, specialising in improvisation and composition (CODARTS / Rotterdam), and a Master’s degree in Dance Studies (Centre for Contemporary Dance / Cologne).
