Michael Pietsch

Michael Pietsch completed his acting studies in 2008 at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University for Music and Theatre in Leipzig. During his studies, he performed at the Schauspiel Leipzig. Subsequently, he was a member of the Staatstheater Oldenburg ensemble for three seasons. In 2010, he played Baal in a production by Jan-Christoph Gockel and made a guest performance as Franz Moor at the Theater Bremen in a production by Volker Lösch. For this, he was nominated as Best New Actor of the Year by the journal “Theater heute”. Since he was five years old, Michael Pietsch has been interested in puppets, carving and working with over 150 figures, both in his own productions as well as in stage and opera productions at theatres in Leipzig, Oldenburg, Heidelberg, Mainz, Bonn, Mannheim and Bern, as well as the Zurich Opera House. Michael Pietsch has been a permanent member of the Staatstheater Mainz since the 2014/2015 season, where he most recently performed as an actor and puppeteer in “Die Ratten” and “Grimm”, both productions by Jan-Christoph Gockel; the duo have had an intensive collaboration for years. Their last joint production was “Coltan”, which was performed at festivals in Kinshasa and Cologne, among others. Michael Pietsch’s puppets from the Bonn production of “Metropolis” were exhibited in a showcase of his work at the Augsburger Puppenkiste.

He plays the title role in Jan-Christoph Gockel’s production of “Merlin oder das wüste Land” by Tankred Dorst at the Schauspielhaus Graz and also created 24 puppets for it.
