Gila Christina Schahabi

Gila Christina Schahabi positions herself as a person of colour. She is a networker, space opener and theatre mediator at the Junges Theater Bremen. The focus of her work is on an anti-racist working practice. In a team with BIPoC theatre makers, she offers youth clubs for young BIPoCs and thus tries to create safer spaces for young people who have experienced racism in the theatre. Her theatre work is always closely interlinked with strategies and methods from the empowerment context. With the Meeting Point (based on Amo Braunschweig Postkolonial), she has been declaring theatre as a third place since 2021 and has created an empowerment offer for people of all ages affected by racism, which has generated networks and friendships. In 2022–2023, together with Aktionsbündnis AB, she published the handbook: Diskriminierungskritische Perspektiven: Eine Handreichung für Theatermacher*innen, Vol. 1: Rassismuskritische Theaterpraxis (KJTZ, 2023) as part of the Frankfurter Forum Junges Theater.
