Elias Stemeseder was born in Salzburg, Austria in 1990. Originally classically trained, he discovered jazz and improvisation as a teenager. After initial studies at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz, he moved to Berlin in 2010, to study under the guidance of Tino Derado, Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Hollenbeck and Greg Cohen at the University of the Arts Berlin. Recently he has been working with a variety of creative musicians such as Nels Cline, Thomas Morgan, Chris Tordini, Oskar Gudjonsson, Petter Eldh, Ellery Eskelin, Greg Cohen, Jim Black and Robert Landfermann, to name a few. Incorporating influences coming from jazz history equally strong as such coming from (contemporary) classical music, Elias’ playing is featured on a number of releases by up – and coming Bands from both Europe and the USA (among those, Anna Webber’s Percussive Mechanics and Philipp Gropper’s Philm, Jim Black Trio, as well as the collective trios Eyebone and Jagged Spheres).
