Roman Senkl is consultant for digital arts at Theater Dortmund. In 2021 he was the head of Berliner Festspiele’s laboratory for digital arts. With his company minus.eins, founded in 2013, he mainly works in the field of digital and hybrid theatre; most recently, they developed pieces like “Das HOUSE 0.1” & “Das HOUSE 0.2” as well as the annual conference of Dramaturgische Gesellschaft, “Dig it all”. From 2018-2021, Roman Senkl was a dramaturg at the Academy for Theatre and Digitality and Schauspiel Dortmund under artistic director Kay Voges. As a director and author, he has created several theatre productions on stage (at Schauspiel Dortmund, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Ringlokschuppen Mülheim/Ruhr and others), in the public sphere, online and in the spaces between. He is a lecturer for creative writing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, has taught at the Salzburg Mozarteum, Cornell and Princeton Universities and is a co-founder of Plattform Graz (together with other, including Clemens Setz), of K.G.I., onlinetheater.live, the initiative Interface and of Digitale Dramaturgie, a network for the exchange of ideas in the field of digital arts between subsidised theatres and the independent scene. Most recently, Roman Senkl and Digitale Dramaturgie coordinated the UnBoxing Stages festival 2020 together with Theatertreffen. In his artistic practice with an emphasis on hybrid and cybernetic theatre forms, he is currently developing and directing mixed-reality performances with holographic projections (including Pepper’s Holosuite), virtual reality (including the world’s largest VR-environment in Mozilla Hubs with Ars Electronica) as well as apps for interactive storytelling and augmented reality. He studied creative writing for the stage at Uni-T Graz and at the Berlin University of the Arts as well as directing at Hochschule für Schauspielkunst “Ernst Busch” and is the recipient of more than 20 international awards (including Golden Lion Cannes, London International Awards, CLIO Awards Las Vegas, ADC Awards International & Germany).
