Irish violist Neasa Ní Bhriain stands for an open and agile collaboration between interdisciplinary arts and social issues. During her residencies at Heinrich Böll Cottage on Achill Island and the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Ireland, Ní Bhriain was inspired by meaningful encounters with various artists. Since 2024 she has been professor of viola at the Dresden University of Music. Previously, she taught at the HMT Leipzig and the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere in Weimar. Ní Bhriain plays regularly with Ensemble Resonanz and was principal violist of the Staatskapelle Weimar from 2018 to 2023. Ní Bhriain has performed as a guest with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in the Treppenhaus and was a founding member of ensemble reflektor. Her improvisational work with electronic music and exploration of free composition have been supported by grants from Musikfonds, among others. Ní Bhriain is a founding member of GEM, a Leipzig collective for experimental and new music, a board member of FOKUS Forum für künstlerische Umsetzung e. V. (Forum for Artistic Engagement) in Leipzig, and a member of the Thüringer Kuratorium.
