Dafne Narvaez Berlfein

Dafne Narvaez Berlfein is a film and video artist living in Berlin, and teaches and researches media aesthetics in history and the present. Following a collaborative approach and an intersectional perspective, her work spans along and beyond the boundaries of genre and media.

Film sampling, videotape field recordings, live video captures and modulated interventions are Narvaez Berlfein’s tools to create visual interpretations in dialogue with the works of composers, sound artists and performers, always with a DIY and DIWO (do it with Others) approach. Her works have been shown at Festival Roma Europa, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, CTM Festival, Münchner Kammerspiele, and many other institutions and independent venues.

Her research focuses on avant-garde feminist works, particularly those linked to queer underground contexts and experiences of uprootedness. She has lectured at Humboldt University of Berlin, Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig, Universidad de Buenos Aires and Universität der Künste Berlin.
Narvaez Berlfein is the recipient of the Gwärtler Grant, the Darstellende Kunst Recherche & Arbeitsstipendium, the Bildende Kunst Recherchestipendium, among others, and has received support from Musikfonds and Berlin’s Senate cross-disciplinary funding programme.

All of her projects share the concern of decentralising social-cultural structures through artistic discourse.
